How to Help Heal Wounds on Dogs and Cats: Safe & Effective for Animals
Oct 18, 2017
Let’s be real: our fur babies are part of the family, so why not give them the same care you would give to any other loved one? Like us, pets get cuts, scrapes, and burns often. It can be from a simple rough rock in the park, a run-in protecting you from an evil squirrel, or obsessive self-grooming. Often it can take much longer for their wounds to heal, because their intuition is to lick these spots as much as possible, making them much worse and prolonged.
If you are anything like me (over-protective pet mom), you ask your vet what the best solution is. My vet suggested, “Put some Neosporin on it.” I was not a fan of this advice at all, because Neosporin has three antibiotics and a 10% chance of allergic reaction in humans*. I pay double to get my dog an all-natural, high-end dog food with no chemicals, so I w rub chemicals all over his leg just for him to lick off!
How to treat a wound on your pet:
Step 1: Clean the affected area
Wash the area with warm water until all visible debris is gone.
Step 2: Pat dry.
Using a paper towel or clean, dry cloth, dry the wound.
Step 3: Apply CUROXEN first aid to the wound
Please don't apply a bandage.
CUROXEN first aid contains all-natural and organic ingredients. Made with oxygenated olive oil, calendula, and lavender help to clean the area, ease the pain, and speed up the healing process. There are no nasty chemicals or petroleum-based products in CUROXEN, so it won’t cause any allergic reactions.
Step 4: Prevent your pet from licking
You can try and distract your pet for at least 10 minutes. Longer is better. Ideas include: feeding, taking them for a walk, playing fetch, or giving them a good belly rub.
Step 5: Reapply CUROXEN first aid to the wound
You need to reapply CUROXEN first aid at least two to three times a day by repeating steps 1-4.
Helpful tips:
- Place small pets on a table or counter for easy access.
- If your pet has a tendency to nip or bite, you may want to muzzle, before you begin treatment.
- Shaving affected area can be very helpful, if you feel comfortable doing so.
- If your pet is obsessively messing with the wound, you may want to try putting them in a protective e-collar.
- Have someone help you to restrain your pet, if your pet is uneasy about being messed with.
- If wound does not heal in a week or so, please consult a veterinarian.
CUROXEN first aid will get your best friend back to their spunky, sassy, sporty self in no time! Heal stronger, safer, and smarter!
*Neomycin creates an allergic reaction in approximately 10% of consumers, while 9.2% reacted negatively to bacitracin, with reactions ranging from skin rash to anaphylaxis.
