Vulva vs. Vagina: What's The Difference?
Written by Jordan Liffengren Aug 03, 2023
Have you ever found yourself tangled up in terms when it comes to your nooks and crannies? You’re not alone! Let's dive into some "down-there" details and unmask the mystery of the vulva and the vagina. Today we’re going to take a look at our intimate anatomy to understand ourselves a bit better. Buckle up; it's going to be a fun ride!
Say Hello to the Vulva!
First things first, the vulva isn't just another term for the vagina. Nope! The vulva is actually the name for the whole external part of a woman’s (or those assigned female at birth’s) genitalia. In this blog, we’ll discuss and define each body part and function of the vulva, including the clitoral hood, clitoral head, urethra, labia majora, labia minora, and vaginal opening. Phew, that's a lineup! Now, let’s get started.
-
Clitoral Hood & Clitoral Head:
Meet the most pleasure-packed part! The clitoral head is an amazing little button of joy, protected by the clitoral hood. Like a little umbrella, the hood shelters the head, making sure it doesn't get overstimulated. -
Urethral Opening:
No, it's not where babies come from; it's where pee comes from! It's like the gateway to the bladder and usually sits just below the clitoral head. -
Labia Majora & Labia Minora:
The labia majora are the larger outer lips, while the labia minora are the smaller inner ones. Think of them as the welcoming committee to the vagina. Together, they protect the sensitive inner parts, and they're as unique as snowflakes – no two are alike! -
Vaginal Opening:
Last but not least, there's the vaginal opening. It's where babies make their grand entrance into the world, where menstrual blood exits, and where you’d insert a tampon.
